How to borrow airtime from MTN in Uganda

Sometimes, MTN users in Uganda can be faced with the issue of not having airtime when they need to make a call or not having data when they need to be online. This is when they resort to borrowing airtime from MTN.

How much does MTN in Uganda allow customers borrow

If you are one of those interested in borrowing airtime from MTN in Uganda, you might have at one point or the other gotten curious about the minimum and maximum amount of airtime the company allows its customers to borrow.

The truth is, the amount of airtime a customer is allowed to borrow depends on factors like how frequent they recharge their sim card and how much they do recharge.

But generally, the minimum amount of airtime you can borrow from MTN in Uganda is Ugx 250 while the maximum amount is Ugx 10,000.

Eligibility requirements for borrowing airtime from MTN in Uganda

As strange as it may sound, not everyone is qualified to use the MTN Xtratime service. Here are some of the things that are required of customers before they can borrow airtime from MTN in Uganda:

• They must have a registered MTN sim card and phone number
• They must have been using that MTN sim card for at least 3 months
• They must be an MTN customer using a prepaid plan. That is they must be the type of customer that pay for the amount of airtime or data they need before using it rather than the type that use airtime and data first before paying at the end of the month.
• They must not have any outstanding loan. Customers with debt cannot be allowed to borrow airtime until they have cleared their debt.

How to borrow airtime from MTN in Uganda

The only known way you can borrow airtime from MTN in Uganda is through its MTN Xtratime which allows customers to borrow airtime as low as Ugx 250 and as high as Ugx 10,000.

Here’s how you can borrow airtime from MTN in Uganda:

• Pick up your phone and dial *146#
• Select the “Xtratime” option
• Choose the amount of airtime you want to borrow
• You will be asked to confirm the amount you chose. Once you do that, the airtime will be credited to your account.

It is worthy of note that the act of borrowing airtime from MTN comes with a service fee. This service fee is 10% of the amount of airtime you borrow and it is usually deducted before your account gets credited. 

For instance, if you borrow Ugx 500 worth of airtime, a service fee of Ugx 5 will be deducted and just Ugx 450 will be credited to your account.
